Looking for a place to do a short writing retreat within a reasonable distance of home. What a reasonable distance is varies a bit, but it wouldn't be more than a six or seven hour bus ride from Harrisburg. If you can host for this kind of thing, let's chat about it.

In an open relationship. I try to make time for reading, good documentaries and dramas, webcomics (especially SMBC and XKCD), and friends. I'm a published writer (and even have a poem published, so I guess I'm a published poet too. Just not a very good one.) I had spinal surgery in 2011, so my activities are limited, but not extremely so. I list all of my favorite stuff (books, music, movies, tv) at the bottom of the profile for those who get that far. I like photography, light hiking (i.e., walking in the woods without too many hills. Sorry, it's my back), Cats (I have 3), programming, reading, and bears.

When it comes to reading, I like literary fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and stuff having to do with visualizations and infographics. If you are a fan of Edward Tufte, you are probably a friend of mine. If used to read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy growing up, but not much these days, though I still read China Mieville and Tim Powers because good writing transcends genre. (You can argue about both of their talents as writers all you want: it's entirely subjective). Music wise, a friend said I like "female singers with unique timbres", which is pretty accurate. I'm very picky about movies and TV shows, but seem to be opening up to more variety as I get older. I do not, nor will I, watch TV news. It's infotainment, not news. I'm a redditor and have a few aliases there. I read A LOT of news sources. I still use RSS. I consume online media in a way that often surprises people who have met me. I read college level material at over 500 words per minute, though, and am an information sponge. I like podcasts, though I go through cycles where I listen to just music, just podcasts, or both. It's very variable.

Even though Myers-Briggs is as accurate as astrology (i.e., not at all accurate), I'm an ENTJ for those who care about such things.

Favorite things:

TV: Doctor Who, Jessica Jones, Rome, Sherlock, Futurama, Bob's Burgers (go Louise!), South Park, Vikings, Bron | Broen, The Killing, and Luther, Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate: Universe. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and to a lesser extent Angel) is my favorite show. Netflix is doing some great things with TV, and I hope they continue to do so.

Food: Tex-Mex, Italian, Thai. I'm allergic to all fish, raw tomatoes (cooked are ok), and mushrooms. Food allergies suck

Music: Radical Face (Ben Cooper) is my favorite performer and the only one I've seen in concert. I'm one of Poe's Angry Psychos. I also like The Indigo Girls, Natalie Merchant, Lissie, Jill Sobule, Martin Gore, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Hole, Nine Inch Nails, R.E.M., Letters to Cleo, No Doubt, Garbage, Amy Ray, Dar Williams, The Dead Milkmen, Morrissey, Radiohead, Michelle Malone (who is mostly unknown, which is unfortunate), and many others. I can listen to almost anything, though I have no tolerance for Country music, and very little tolerance for rap. I really like Jazz and I'm pretty fond of instrumental movie soundtracks.

Movies: Dogma, Inside Job, Ressurect Dead, The Bridge, Shortbus, Spotlight, The Big Short, Catfish, Stargate, Pi (probably my favorite movie of all time), The Avengers movies, Deadpool, The Hours (also a candidate for my favorite movie), Silence of the Lambs, Natural Born Killers, The Last King of Scotland, Moon, Elizabeth, Never Let Me Go, Copycat (highly underrated, in my opinion), A History of the World Part 1, The Princess Bride, Indie Game, Seven Psychopaths, The Prophecy (another underrated movie), John Dies at the End, Magnolia, Moonrise Kingdom, The Cabin in the Woods, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill 1 and 2, Wonder Boys, Slums of Beverly Hills, Capote, As Good as it Gets, Basquiat, and bunches more I'm probably forgetting.
